Hello Dr. Alexander,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Irene Olibris. I am a senior this year majoring in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Early Childhood. I’m a native of Fort. Lauderdale, Florida, my background is Haitian. I was inspired by my third and fourth grade teacher to become a teacher. She was an amazing teacher that was just, very respectful and caring. The same way she has inspire me I would love to inspire my students when I start teaching in becoming something great in their future. I look forward in learning the materials you have planned for us this semester, so I may incorporate your ideas in my classroom and in my lesson plans.
Hi Everyone,
ReplyDeleteI want to first thank you for sharing. I was SURPRISED that only a few of you took the time to do so. I think it is important to reward this so on your first assignment you have earned 5 points! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I look foward to getting to know you all this semester.
Hello Dr. Alexander
ReplyDeleteI know this is late but I decided to post my profile any way.
My name is Ms. DeNeil W. Preston born in Greensboro, NC but I was raised in Atlanta, GA.
My father is a pastor and my mother is a librarian at an elementary school in Fulton County, GA.
I have two brother’s and I’m the only girl, so by now you’ve figured out I’m spoiled . I’m a recent graduate of Oakwood University; I received a B.S in Human Development and Family Study. Currently, I’m enrolled in the 5th year program and super excited about what the future holds for me.
Hi DeNeil,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Does your father pastor an Adventist church and that's why you chose Oakwood? And yes, I imagine you are SUPER spoiled :) but that's a good thing. I am excited that you have listened to God's call on your life for teaching. Let the journey begin!
Hi Dr. Alexander
ReplyDeleteYes my father is an Adventist Pastor and may be when he comes to town I can introduce you to him. In high school I received my diploma in sociology, I was better known as the social butterfly of my class. Academics were not my number one priority, so when everyone received scholarships I received a little sermon that went like this:
Father- DeNeil
Me- yes daddy
Father-we need to talk
Me-what’s on your mind?
Father- as you know you did not do what was fully required of you in high school, so since you played around and didn’t receive a scholarship, you are free to go where you want to go or you may go where my money’s going.
Me- blank stare
So Dr. Alexander, to answer question seriously, I really did play around in high school so my father chose Oakwood because he was paying and he’s a strong believer in Christian education.
Dr. Alexander and fellow classmates
ReplyDeleteHi; my apologies for being late...
My name is Sharon King, I am orignally from the beautiful island of Jamaica; Huntsville is a second home from home for me!
I am currently doing a second masters which is the fifth year in Elementary Ed. The first was in counseling Psychology. I believe every teacher should acquire a background knowledge in this area(Psychology) because it facilitates us working well with our students and assessing their capabilites even in the lower grades. Every child or student for that matter, has a unique and different learning style according to Gardner. My passion with this program is on the young ones and learning to READ! If you miss the boat from 'yu' small, then 'yu' salt lata" fill you in later!!! Class is exciting so far!!
Keisha's story is one that can be seen in the schools that we go for feild experience. Once a child gets out of their comfort zone if they don’t get the reassurance that they are in a safe compassionate place the students can thrive in we start to loose them. These children need the teacher to be a teacher first and that feels like the teacher really cares then they are more likely to reach for excellences as teacher I want to try and find ways to reach and engage all my students. The teacher is a parent to 15 to 25 students for nine months every year we need to be sensitive to each child and try to become aware of their individually unique situations. It has been proven that if we don’t grab these children’s interest by third grade we can watch a tangible loss of participation and disciplinary problems. Keisha’s teacher, Ms. Logan, uses a technique that I am going to use to promote excitement the first day. The explanation that everyone had an (A) and that the student could have that a when report cards came out if you work hard. The concept, while simple is a brilliant Motivational tool. Seeing your name with an A next to it can be addictive.
